The GRID helps you improve your workflow. The GRID icon is where you can change the view displayed in the CENTER panel in a variety of different ways so that you can look at your photos, perform editing on them, search them, or sort them. You can also enter SLIDESHOW mode. Here are details about the different views and tasks you can perform from the GRID icon.
ALL PHOTOS: If you select ALL PHOTOS mode, you can sort your photos by DATE, NAME, or RATING in either ASCENDING or DESCENDING order. (I will refer to this throughout this section as the “full set of sorting options,” which is available in many but not all views.) You can also toggle the ALL PHOTOS view from SQUARE to TILE or to FLUID. You can also choose to display either RATING or TITLE annotations directly on the displayed images. Finally, you can also run the SLIDESHOW with ALL PHOTOS.
FOLDERS: The GRID icon works almost the same in FOLDERS as in ALL PHOTOS, with some minor differences. If you are at the top level of your FOLDERS or ALBUMS, you can sort the folders either by NAME or DATE in either ASCENDING or DESCENDING sort order. If you have nested FOLDERS, at each lower level, the SHOW ALL PHOTOS applies to everything only at that FOLDER level. Once you reach the lowest-level folder, GRID will once again give you the full set of sorting options. You can also run the SLIDESHOW.
ALBUMS: This offers all the same sorting options as FOLDERS, with the addition of the handy CUSTOM sort that lets you manually organize and sequence the images in an album.
CALENDAR VIEW: If you are in CALENDAR view looking at decades, years, or months, you have only two sorting options, ASCENDING or DESCENDING. Once you reach the day level, you once again have access to the full set of sorting options. You can also run SLIDESHOW in the CALENDAR view at any level of time.
PEOPLE VIEW: The top level of PEOPLE view provides only the SLIDESHOW option. Once you click into a specific person’s container of photos (such as a folder or an album), you get the added ability to change the GRID STYLE and ANNOTATIONS.
LOCATION VIEW: The GRID in LOCATION view operates exactly the same as in the PEOPLE view.
Editing an Image
If you are editing an image, you can toggle into FILMSTRIP mode from the GRID icon. When you do, any images related to the photo you are editing show up in the lower portion of your screen as a filmstrip. The display differs depending on the way you have the images sorted. For example, if you have sorted by rating and you are looking at 5-star images, the other 5-star images in your current VIEW mode will show up in the filmstrip.
